 WELCOME TO MY PIANO STUDIO!

FUN AND INSPIRING MUSIC EDUCATION FOR LIFE!

I have many years of performing, researching and  teaching experience, all the time receiving  joy from doing something that inspires creativity and passion, for both student and teacher. Whether child or adult, beginner or advanced, each of my students receives my undivided attention  and commitment to excellence.

My style is dynamic, caring and enthusiastic.

My goals are to show my students how to make practicing easy, how to experience joy through music, and, ultimately, how to communicate artistically through the piano.

My primary goal is to help my students to become superlatively competent and confident pianists and musicians, and to inspire them to be successful

artists and great human beings.

PHILOSOPHY

One of my important missions is to transmit the passion for music, the beauty of listening and making music, and to teach the ability of learning with patience and perseverance, concentration and love. Focus into the music and open your mind to a million details to find an artistic thought. What do I see? How can I transmit that? How do I feel about that interpretation?

That mission includes to expand the horizons of each student and to develop their individual talents to their maximum capability, through technical and artistic training, and exposure to as many aspects of the musical world as possible, bringing joy, inspiration for creativity, and a passion for music.                                                                                                                                                            Another important mission is to keep my international career of private and public performances, giving master classes in piano performance, workshops in piano pedagogy, developing contemporary music research, adjudicating, and teaching, always with the highest degree of professionalism.

PROGRAM - FUN AND EDUCATIONAL!

All students enrolled in the Studio of Dr. Maria-Helena Ferraz are offered a well-rounded training and education of all aspects of music involving the piano and various aspects of performances. The program engages students with a combination of lessons, master classes, solos and chamber music performances. It encompasses the piano repertoire pieces from the baroque, classical, romantic, modern, and contemporary periods of music history, and presents also a variety of folk and popular styles. It emphasizes piano artistic interpretation, piano technique and musicianship. The curriculum also includes history, chamber music, theory, solfeggio, sight singing, sight reading, harmony, analysis, and ear training. The students are presented with the highest quality of musical training and the opportunity to participate in recitals, master classes, competitions, festivals, centennial hall piano ensemble concert, among others.

RECITALS AND GENERAL PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

A Studio Recital is held three times a year. All students are encouraged to participate, as they are well prepared to perform. Selected students will be given the opportunity to perform also in many events promoted by the Tucson Music Teachers Association, the Arizona Music Teachers Association, and the Music Teachers National Association, including Recitals, Festivals, Piano Ensemble Concerts at Centennial Hall, Competitions, Evaluations, and Auditions.

ARIZONA STUDY PROGRAM

The Arizona Study Program is a course of study developed by the Arizona State Music Teachers Association, affiliated to the National Music Teachers Association, to provide for the development of musical Performance, Technique, and Theory. Selected students will be enrolled in this program. It requires continual work throughout the year and an evaluation in Performance, Technique, and Theory, by a master adjudicator, in the Spring.

 PERSONALIZED PROGRAM!

Some students take lessons because they want to, other students have lessons because their parents want to give them the opportunity to learn music, still others want something a little extra on their college résumé. Some students are getting ready to audition to college or Master’s degrees and to become professional musicians, some students are highly competitive and want to win prizes in competitions and festivals, some like to perform in recitals with friends, family and student classmates as their audience, still others choose to play for themselves.

For each student, the Studio of Dr. Maria-Helena Ferraz has a personalized program tailored to fit the student’s needs.
